We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Gastroenterologists within the department of Gastroenterology. The successful applicant will support in the delivery of high quality, timely endoscopy care, outpatient clinics, and inpatient care.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-looking department currently undergoing investment, service redesign and modernisation. The successful applicant will provide a Consultant service in general Gastroenterology although any sub-specialist interest is welcomed particularly clinical nutrition or IBD. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the existing 18 Consultants in the Department.

Candidates are required to be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview or currently hold CCT or equivalent. As such the post holder should be trained in all aspects of Gastroenterology.
Successful candidates will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit/governance.

Main duties of the job

To provide Consultant General Gastroenterology and Clinical Nutrition services at the University Hospitals of Leicester.  

To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care, as prescribed in GMC Guidance ‘Duties of a Doctor’, at all times; and ensuring that bad practice is reported, as appropriate. To undertake regular audit and Continuing Professional Development to achieve revalidation.

To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place.

To co-operate in ensuring that services are delivered to contract and within budget.

The Consultant has a continuing responsibility for the care of the patients in their charge and for the proper organisation and functioning of their clinical practice. To liaise closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies in contributing to the objectives of the department. To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trust’s ‘Critical Incident Policy’, are reported either to the Head of Service or Clinical Director or the Medical Director in a timely manner.
