Job Details

The aim of this post is to provide resident cover to the adult critical care service at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their technical skill set and knowledge base in a modern critical care unit under the mentorship of consultants with a range of tertiary hospital sub-specialist interests.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will be part of the team of 9 junior residents in Critical Care Medicine at the Princess Royal University Hospital. The residents are responsible for the day-to-day management of patients on the general unit, under the supervision of a consultant intensivist.

Job responsibilities

The critical care unit is to be supported by at least one resident junior clinical fellow out of hours. Senior clinical fellows support both the junior clinical fellows and the outreach service, which provides care to the rest of the hospital. Critical care consultants support the critical care unit, outreach activities and all the clinical fellows.

The appointees will be expected to participate fully in the educational and training programmes within the department and the hospital. Appointees will have a named educational supervisor. Annual leave and study leave is commensurate with other post-foundation doctors. These posts are aligned with the training requirements of ACCS, Anaesthetics and IMT trainees.

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Eligible for full registration and licensing with the GMC at time of appointment
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Ability to provide a complete employment history with no unexplained career gaps
  • Evidence that career progression is consistent with personal circumstances
  • Interested in ICM as a potential career
  • Valid adult life support (ALS) certification
  • Good standard of written and spoken English to facilitate communication with patients, healthcare professionals and other staff
  • Evidence that present achievement and performance is commensurate with totality of period of training

Desirable

  • FRCA/MRCP/MRCS or equivalent qualification
  • Experience within Intensive Care Medicine and/or anaesthesia.
  • Demonstrable research experience
  • Demonstrable teaching experience
  • Airway competencies
  • ATLS
