and Paediatric Emergency Medicine

2 posts - rotating through the emergency department and the paediatric emergency unit - 6 months in each

Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend
Are you finishing your foundation training? Are you unsure which specialty you want to choose? Are you looking for an opportunity to try Emergency Medicine or paediatric emergency medicine before applying for training?

Can we tempt you to join our amazing multidisciplinary team? Our Junior Clinical Fellow posts are an ideal opportunity to work in a supportive clinical environment.

The children's emergency unit is a new development within the emergency department, with paediatric emergency consultant cover during weekdays. Here you will be able to influence the expansion of the unit, formulating new pathways and protocols to ensure our paediatric population receive excellent emergency care. This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to gain paediatric clinical experience as well as giving you an insight to the management activity that is required to create a new service.

Main duties of the job

Feedback from trainees has been extremely positive including:

'I have felt fully supported and able to discuss any issues; I was fully aware what was expected of me and felt well included in the ED Team'.

'Sim teaching here has been so useful and always highly relevant as well as engaging and interactive'.

The successful candidates will be part of a team of 13 junior doctors in a busy district general hospital Emergency Department (ED). You will work alongside nine middle grade doctors & eight consultants in a multi-disciplinary team including ENPs and ACPs providing front line care to an undifferentiated case mix. The successful applicant will participate in a full shift rota providing 24-hour shop floor cover. The department provides a consultant led service with ample opportunity for supervision. There is direct consultant shop floor cover approximately 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The posts are available to start from 3rd August 2022 - you will rotate between the emergency department and the emergency paediatric unit (6 months in each).
