Clinical Senior Lecturer.  Consultant or GP Advisor salary scale.

Dundee is recruiting a Clinical Senior Lecturer for a unique undergraduate educational role leading the final two years of ScotGEM, Scotland’s new graduate entry rural generalist programme?

Scottish Graduate Entry Medicine (ScotGEM), is an innovative 4-year graduate entry medical programme, designed to train doctors as generalists with experience of rural practice. This small truly community-based course for just 70 students will produces our first graduates in June 2022.

In the first two years ScotGEM offers 50 case-based learning scenarios which are heavily supported by a team of twenty dedicated GP educators, who form the backbone of clinical training and offer a positive generalist role model. In year 3 ScotGEM employs a widely dispersed immersive GP based Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) which is supplemented by both structured and student led secondary care experiences. Final year teaching aligns closely with the more traditional Dundee block rotations in preparation for foundation posts, but most students continue to study in our partner boards (Dumfries and Galloway, Fife and Highland).  Additional novel features of ScotGEM include a focus on developing healthcare improvement skills by becoming ‘Agents of Change’ within the student selected element of the programme.

You will join the team introducing this innovative course and lead the delivery and future development of ScotGEM in years 3 and 4. This will involve working effectively with an extensive range of colleagues within the universities of Dundee and St Andrews as well as those within our NHS partner boards.  The University of Dundee enjoys an international reputation for excellence that attracts top-class students and academics from across the world.  To support this, ScotGEM has a clear scholarship agenda and is developing increasing educational research activities which you would be invited to join.

Your priorities will include:

  • Leadership of year 3 (LIC) and year 4 (rotating clinical blocks) placements
  • Academic support, assessment, and related scholarly activities
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships within the partnership
  • Sourcing clinical placement capacity as required
  • University, NHS and GMC quality assurance processes.

Who we’re looking for:

  • An experienced clinical medical educator (of any background), to be based in Dundee but able to travel within Scotland
  • An enthusiast for the ScotGEM rural generalist mission
  • A highly effective senior collaborative worker
  • Relevant experience in a leadership position (NHS or educational)
  • Ongoing clinical role (contracted separately, support will be available to arrange if required).
