Our services

We provide a comprehensive range of services including in the community and hospital settings: talking therapies, mental health servicesfor adults, children and adolescents, drug and alcohol, learning disability,eating disorder, Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorderclinic, forensic and other mental health.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) sees all young people, up to their 18th birthday, regardless of educational status in Surrey and delivers a full range of services to children and young people including primary mental health input. Additional supports come from the Early intervention in Psychosis team which provides intervention for psychosis (covering people between the ages of 14 - 35 with emerging or apparent psychosis); HOPE team for more intensive outpatient intervention and in addition the Extended HOPE service which supports the on call provision out of hours. Further, the eating disorders team and the Specialist CAMHS team (established in early 2010) provide input across the county. There is a single point of access team (SPA) which is responsible for processing all referrals. There is also a Crisis Service, which is responsible for the assessment of all young people who have attended the 5 general hospitals within the county with a mental health crisis. This is staffed by crisis nurses and two doctors.

About the role

We are looking for an innovative an enthusiastic consultant to join and complement our existing experienced Consultant team that delivers mental health support to looked after children, children in post adoption placements and working with children who have suffered sexual trauma. The service also provides mental health support to unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC). The Specialist Children & Adolescent Mental Health service comprises the Care Experienced Service (working with accommodated children, care leavers and those in adoptive or special guardianship placements) and the STARS Service (Sexual Trauma, Assessment Recovery Support). The service is a county-wide service and forms a specialist part of the overall Children & Adolescent Mental Health Service in Surrey.

This is a part time opportunity4 PA's/week = 2 days/week working on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Continuing Professional Development is a high priority for the Trust and you will be strongly encouraged to continue with further education in accordance with the recommendations of the Royal College of Psychiatrists enabling you to grow and develop in your role. We particularly welcome psychiatrists with a strong interest in medical education and/or research and would support people's interests in those roles. For newly appointed Consultants mentorship is available and promoted. There are established CPD groups and peer group meetings, as well as scope for supervising GP/Psychiatry trainees and teaching opportunities for medical students.

About you

You will have:
  • A recognised basic Medical Degree and MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Full Medical Registration (GMC) with a Licence to Practice
  • Eligibility for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or CCT in appropriate specialty (or within 6 months at time of Interview/Assessment) or equivalent
  • Approved Clinician Status and approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act
  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • Management qualification or evidence of an interest in developing leadership skills
