This post offers an excellent learning opportunity for a doctor who may be considering a career in Medical Oncology or related subjects. The successful applicant will participate in the general clinical, medical and oncological management of patients with a wide range of malignancies at this leading cancer centre. Based at the main Christie site, the post holder will work alongside consultants and trainees in out-patient clinics, supervising chemotherapy delivery and performing on-treatment reviews and follow-up assessments.

Main duties of the job

JOB PURPOSE

  • The appointee will be a Locally Employed Doctor in Medical Oncology
  • The employing authority is The Christie NHS Foundation Trust
  • S/he will be managerially accountable to the Clinical Director of the Directorate of Medical Oncology
  • S/he will be professionally responsible to the consultants in whose clinics s/he will be supporting.
  • The post-holder will be assigned a clinical supervisor (Consultant Medical Oncologist). They will work alongside their supervisor at least one clinic.

Job responsibilities

The role is contracted at 40 hours per week (full time) for a fixed term of 12 months. This role does not currently have an agreed rota commitment. The post holder will be employed by The Christie NHS Foundation Trust and will be based at The Christie. The successful applicant would be expected to work alongside consultants and trainees in out-patient clinics, supervising chemotherapy delivery and performing on-treatment reviews and follow-up assessments.

Specific duties will include:

 

  • Responsibility for attending out patients at the Christie and peripheral sites and support of the ORTC outpatient chemotherapy unit.

 

 

  • In the out-patient clinics they will be expected to review and manage patients on chemotherapy, review patients and new patients. All of this will be done under the clinical supervision of the team consultant.
  • They will be expected to teach junior medical staff, medical students and nurses on occasion.
  • They will be expected to take part in audit and research.
