This post is for a Consultant Rheumatologist and General Physician . This post holder will have joint Rheumatology and General Medical responsibilities. The job is a fulltime post comprising of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs). Applicants who wish to work less than full time are very welcome to apply.

The post holder will demonstrate a firm commitment to clinical governance, clinical audit and risk management by the development of systems to ensure the highest standards of patient care are achieved and maintained.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join two full time consultant General Physician / Rheumatologists and 3 pure Rheumatologists. The department also has a GPSI, biologics pharmacist and 3 specialist nurses.

The post holder will have responsibility for inpatients, as part of a mega firm within the medical directorate. He/she will also have outpatient clinics on and off site. He/she will undertake a share of the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients, the running of the rheumatology department and the directorate. The setting up of a specialist interest clinic will be encouraged.

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the department with inpatient and outpatient commitments. He/she will undertake a share of the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients. The post holder will play an important part in developing this service. He/she will also be expected to play an active role in the hospital management - there are many opportunities, from outpatient steering committees to research and development.

The post will also involve teaching and supervision of junior staff and involvement in teaching programmes within Frimley Park and within local GP surgeries. The post holder will be expected to engage with local patient groups (e.g. NRAS).

The terms and conditions of service will be those applicable to the Terms and Conditions -Consultants (England) 2003, and the Trust's local agreement which outlines the Trust's position on areas where there is local flexibility on contractual issues. Job responsibilities

At present the Department consists of 2 full time Rheumatologists / General Physicians and 2 pure Rheumatologists. We have a GPSI, three rheumatology specialist nurses (who prescribe and perform intra-articular injections), a specialist biologic pharmacist and biologics coordinator. A special interest will be encouraged. The department has a track record of regular publication, with abstracts, letters or papers every year for the last 15 years. We have close regional collaboration in audit, several of which have been published. We work very closely with four consultant MSK radiologists and have full access to diagnostic ultrasound and image guided injection. There is a fibromyalgia service based within the physiotherapy department at Frimley Park Hospital, working jointly with the clinical psychology department. We have access to specialised occupational and physiotherapy services.

There are regular 3-monthly regional postgraduate rheumatology meetings, led by St Georges Hospital. Within the hospital we have a weekly rheumatology educational meeting on a Friday afternoon and monthly lunchtime MSK radiology meeting. We also have a monthly ILD meeting jointly with respiratory and radiology colleagues, and a 3 monthly teleconference with the Royal Brompton Hospital. We have a 3 monthly half day clinical meeting with colleagues from the Wexham Park site, with whom we work closely. The Trust participates in medical training, and receives students from St Georges and Southampton Medical Schools. There is a monthly medical directorate half day meeting.

The Medical Directorate is young, dynamic and supportive. It provides hyperacute cardiac and stroke services to large areas of Surrey, North Hampshire and Berkshire.
