Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Learning Disability

Duration: up to 5 months 

Based at Caerphilly Community Learning Disability Team

Part Time:  6 sessions

Anticipated Start Date: ASAP

The Learning Disability Directorate is committed to developing a modern, evidence based, needs led service for people with a Learning Disability. This post provides an exciting Locum opportunity to join an established and innovative Directorate which is striving to provide excellent care for the population of Gwent who have a Learning Disability. The Learning Disability Directorate is working on a number of initiatives to improve patient experience and provide a modern Learning Disability service for the future while continuing to deliver high quality care. The Learning Disability Directorate sits within the Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Division of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The Directorate is managed by the Clinical Director, Lead Nurse and Directorate Service Manager and the Division is managed by the Divisional Director, Lead Nurse and General Manager. 

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing outpatient services to Caerphilly county borough, which has a total population of approximately 181,731.  The current medical caseload for Caerphilly CLDT is approx 200 which is shared with two other Consultants based on whole time equivalent. You may also have the opportunity to be part of or lead on service developments, audit and research in the community teams.

Facilities: Office accommodation is provided within Caerphilly Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT) in Pontllanfraith and at Llanfrechfa Grange. Secretarial support is based in Caerphilly CLDT (4 Days) and full IT facilities will be provided.

Free parking is available across all Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Sites.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children and adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including  an adults and children’s barred list check

Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
