Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Breast Imaging 

Based:  The Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, SE Wales

 Full Time (10 Sessions)

  Anticipated Start Date: asap

Applications are invited for a full time Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Breast Imaging. The radiology on-call service is provided in-house by first on-call SpRs with secondary support from Radiologists; the current frequency is approximately 1:18. The successful candidate will join an enthusiastic team of Consultants with negotiable base hospital, but will include sessions at other Health Board sites.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is one of the largest and busiest health providers in the UK, advancing clinical excellence and driving forward clinical research. 

The University Health Board is responsible for the healthcare of more than 600,000 people living in South East Wales, providing primary and acute services, plus a wide range of community and mental health care, with acute hospitals at Newport, Abergavenny and Caerphilly supported by community hospitals and extensive community, general practice, mental health and learning disability services. The service will be further enhanced with the state of the art Specialist and Critical Care Centre, The Grange University Hospital Cwmbran, November 2020.

The University Health Board has over 13,000 staff, including over 1,000 doctors and general practitioners, 250 consultants and a nursing staff of more than 5,000. Its Clinical School has 950 medical students and 350 post-graduate junior doctor replacements each year. The University Health Board also hosts many award winning nurses. 

This post supports the opportunity for the successful candidate to complete a  1 year Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) or 2 year Masters (MSc) which includes the 1 year PGDip.

This position involves Regulated Activity with children and adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including children's an adults barred list check

Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC.

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
