DUTIES OF THE POST

  • Provide medical support to the cardiology unit and ambulatory care unit (ACU) under consultant supervision
  • Provide cover for the aortic valve surveillance service under consultant supervision including face to face OPC, virtual OPC, database recording, echo requesting and auctioning of results.
  • Provide support to in-house cardiology team including cross cover of CCU / ward 1 North / ward referrals / acute admissions when required.
  • Develop protocols for use in the department.
  • Participate in Medical Audit and QIP within the unit.
  • Contribute to medical education and training
  • Undertake dobutamine stress echocardiography under supervision.
  • Contribute to review OPC when required and set up a new valve replacement / TAVI surveillance service.
  • Participate in the cardiovascular research unit (CVRU).
  • Work closely with our Emergency Department staff in assessing patients.
  • Work closely with our Medical colleagues  in the delivery of our Direct Current Service
  • Support Consultant Cardiologists at  their Outpatient Clinics
  • Be expected to work with professional colleagues and local managers in the efficient running of Cardiology services.
  • Participate in clinical audit, Cardiology Governance meetings and mortality and morbidity meetings.
  • Provide assessment where required to patients referred to the direct access echocardiography service.
  • Assist in the training of SHOs/STs and F1s
  • Teaching of medical students on placement within the specialty
  • Ensure good communication with patients, relatives and general practitioners
  • Participate in the investigation of any complaints within the Directorate
  • Perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Adhere to the statutory requirement for the notification of infectious diseases, completion of accident/incident forms, etc.
