The Emergency Department (ED) is a small-medium friendly department seeing approximately 64,000 adult and paediatric patients per year. The post is fixed term for 6-12 months, a suitable start date can be agree.

We have been recently been given the go ahead to remain as a 24 hour department and the service it provides is under-going significant re-design. The COVID19 pandemic has allowed rapid changes within the department with the development of RED and AMBER zones. We have made significant changes to the front door pathways, allowing us to further improve hospital flow, enhance our footprint and keeping corridors in the ED clear so ambulances can safely offload. At the same time, we are also working to expand the size of the ED further to allow for an increased dedicated paediatric area.

We have excellent relationships with other specialties in the hospital and the community and are continuously developing and improving pathways to provide our patient with the highest quality care.

We run a weekly teaching programme face to face and via Teams. We run regular Resus drills with the ITU team. Every doctor is allocated an educational supervisor who will provide mentoring, support and direction on developing a personal development programme tailored to the successful candidate's needs.

There is a good level of Consultant supervision on the shop floor and support with regular Clinical Governance meetings and sharing of learning from events. Audit and research interests will be encouraged. There is also an ED running club that meet weekly.
