Associate Clinical Director & Consultant Psychiatrist

Sutton Community Adult Mental Health Services

3-year fixed term contract for ACD role

Substantive Consultant contract with the Trust

Are you ready to join our dynamic community mental health services which are undergoing an exciting and innovative transformation! We are looking for a consultant with the interest and skills in providing strong medical leadership to take our services forward in Richmond.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist and Associate Clinical Director for our Sutton Community Adult services. This is one of five ACD roles within the Community adult services in South West London and St Georges NHS Trust.

Our Associate Clinical Directors must be enthusiastic and hands on leaders, who have excellent interpersonal skills and are keen to facilitate improvement to clinical pathways and services.  Working with the Clinical Director for adult services, and the wider leadership team, ACDs will support achieving the Service Lines strategic objectives and developing our partnerships at Borough, Integrated Care System, and regional and national level. We are looking for candidates who have the passion and skills to be the clinical directors and medical directors of the future.  The role will be accompanied by a development programme and peer support from fellow ACDs already working in the other boroughs of the Trust.

The postholder will also be asked to provide consultant sessions to the Sutton and Cheam Integrated Recovery Hub based at the well-located Jubilee Health Centre in Wallington.

The team provides care for working age adults who live in Sutton or Cheam and experience severe or enduring mental illness. Sutton and Cheam IRH works alongside one other Sutton based IRH, with care provided according to GP/PCN alignment.

The team is part of a wider Community Mental Health services transformation within the borough, which has resulted in a significant investment in additional staff and services from community provider partners.

The post works alongside a separate Consultant-led Primary Liaison and Recovery Service which offers a single point of access for all borough based mental health referrals and also offers step down care for patients requiring additional support following IRH interventions. The IRH also interfaces with a Consultant-led Home Treatment Team and in-patient wards. There are also specialist teams for Early Intervention in Psychosis, Personality Disorder and adult ADHD.

The post-holder will be responsible for the clinical care delivered by the team, for the provision of training for core and higher psychiatry trainees, and the teaching of St George’s University of London Medical Students. They will work closely with a Team manager, an advanced clinical practitioner and a dedicated Clinical Service Manager for the Borough (8b).

The ACD role is for 2pas plus 10% responsibility allowance (on 10pas) plus 8-9pas of a Consultant role with the Recovery Support Team for a 3 years fixed term period. The Trust will offer a 10pa substantive consultant contract following the completion of the 3 year ACD role.

COVID-19 has brought with it many challenges but it has also shown us other ways of effective working that look set to be adopted moving forward.  This includes agile working and the smart use of technology for both appointments with service users and staying connected to colleagues. Talk to us about how that could make a difference in your life.

We are a dynamic, financially stable mental health trust which has consistently been rated ‘good’ by the CQC. We’re small enough to be a friendly Trust, but big enough to have internationally-recognised, innovative and ground-breaking services. We have an integrated academic programme, an established quality improvement programme, and good links with our local universities. We’re widely known for the quality of our training, for treating everyone as individuals, and for supporting consultants to develop external roles and special interests. We’re in a beautiful, leafy part of one of the world’s greatest capital cities and are currently spending over £150 million rebuilding our main hospitals – it’s an exciting time to join!

If you are a dynamic, experienced consultant psychiatrist looking for a senior clinical leadership role and fully registered with the GMC as well as holding Approved Clinician and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act we   would very much like to hear from you.

Company

South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLSTG) serves more than 1.2 million people across the London boroughs of Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth.

The Trust employs more than 2,000 staff who provide care and treatment to more than 20,000 people from South West London and beyond at any given moment. We received a ‘Good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following their inspection of our services in 2019. They confirmed that we have maintained and strengthened our ‘Good’ rating across all areas.
The Trust has a long history of innovation that has helped to redefine the mental health landscape in the UK.

We are a multi-award-winning organisation, including:

  • Our innovative Lotus Assessment Suite, which was named Regional Champion for the ‘Excellence in Healthcare’ Award in the NHS Parliamentary Awards 2019.

The NHS Parliamentary Awards are an annual celebration of talent and innovation within the NHS and Members of Parliament are asked to nominate individuals or teams within their area. Stephen Hammond, Member of Parliament for Wimbledon, nominated Lotus for its innovation toward patient care.

  • Merton Citizens were finalists in the Guardian Public Sector Awards 2019 Public Health and Wellbeing category after working closely with the Trust and the citizens of Merton to raise awareness of Mental Health and improve access to support for Mental Health conditions.
  • The Trust’s Quality Improvement and Innovation (QII) Steering Group won the Team of the Year award from the Arrhythmia Alliance as they were lauded for their work creating a programme to quickly and easily screen for Atrial Fibrillation, a serious heart condition, amongst service users, carers and staff.

Our Trust is on a journey from good to excellent and our staff survey results improve each year. Our Mental Health services have been provided from the main Trust Headquarters in the impressive grounds of Springfield University Hospital in Tooting – for more than 160 years. but we also provide services in many other community locations throughout London and the South East - major inpatient services from Tolworth Hospital in Kingston, and Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton.
