Do you want to be part of a pro-active and enthusiastic team in the journey of re-designing palliative care services across Gwent?

The Palliative Care Directorate within ABUHB is currently undergoing some exciting changes and developments with the implementation of our Clinical Futures Service Model, in partnership with our third sector providers.

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join our well-established and highly motivated team with a track record for service development and pioneering education, training and research.  

The post holder will be responsible for the effective and appropriate medical care of patients across the directorate.  These are exciting posts that can offer opportunities and experience across acute, in-patient hospice and community settings and a job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate.

You will lead consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings and supervise any junior medical staff or students who may rotate through the Directorate.   The multidisciplinary team includes consultants in palliative medicine, specialty doctors, advanced nurse practioners, clinical nurse specialists, occupational therapist, complementary therapist, and working with all ABUHB general staff across the divisions.

At present we would welcome applicants with an interest in working in different settings (specialist inpatient palliative care unit, acute hospital and community) but would be interested in hearing from anyone with an interest in working in South 

East Wales as we may be able to tailor a post to the preferences of a potential suitable candidate.

The Health Board also actively supports consultant doctors to undertake funded 3 month formal sabbaticals through an annual application process.

This position involves Regulated Activity with adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

Applicants must hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR (CP) date within 6 months of interview.
