Speciality Doctor in Community Paediatrics (2 x 0.6 WTE - Mid and Northeast Cornwall)

Applications are invited for two posts of Speciality Doctor in Community Paediatrics at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro to cover the above localities).

The combined Directorate of Women and Children at the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust is seeking to appoint Community Paediatricians at Speciality Doctor Level. These posts will join the team of Community Paediatricians and we are looking to attract the right candidates who have enthusiasm for the role of a developmental paediatrician within a changing service. Training and supervision can be offered for the right applicants.

As part of the government's health infrastructure plan, the Paediatric Team are also preparing for a new Women's and Children's Hospital in Truro where the build is imminent. Focus In Cornwall is on seeing the children at the right time and in the right place and there is a move towards even more MDT working within the Integrated Care System. There are exciting developments in adolescent services, eating disorders, FASD and neurodevelopment as well as continued joint working within Paediatrics and with CAMHS.

The post holders will be part of the Community Child Health team initially taking responsibility for children referred to our service in Mid Cornwall or Northeast Cornwall. This includes developmental assessments, a commitment to Autistic Spectrum assessment in children under 5 ½ years of age and supporting children with complex needs in the community. Community Paediatrics operates a daytime child protection rota. Competency to join this rota, and safeguarding experience would be welcomed but this is not essential for this role. However, general safeguarding awareness and practice would be expected. There is no commitment to the acute on-call rota.

In the community team there is one Associate Specialist and two Speciality Doctors. There are often one to two Speciality Registrars (ST4-5) on Community Paediatric attachment providing additional support as well as extended scope therapy practitioners. We are also approved for a GRID Community Paediatric trainee.

An enthusiastic commitment to partnership working with Cornwall's Primary Care Trust and the Local Authority is expected and the ability to respond to the changing demands of Community Child Health services will be expected.

The department is actively involved in the delivery of the education programme of the University of Exeter Medical School [UEMS] and RCHT is rated 7th Nationally in terms of their research activity.

Cornwall is a beautiful county which offers an outstanding quality of life and providing many opportunities for outdoor activities, with its sailing waters, surfing beaches and rugged coastal pathways for walking, and cycling. There is a thriving arts and theatre scene as well as an interesting variety of eating places, including celebrity-owned restaurants within Cornwall. The major route in and out of the county is the A30 which connects with the M5 motorway at Exeter. There is an excellent rail service with daily passenger and sleeper services, and an airport at Newquay with daily connections to many cities throughout the UK and abroad.

Do you have a partner and family who would relocate with you? If so, then please contact us as we have a variety of employment opportunities within the hospital and would be happy to discuss this with you.

Applicants are required to be on the GMC Registered with a licence to practice. Applications are welcomed from those wishing to job-share.

Discussion about this role is encouraged and informal enquiries regarding this post should be addressed to Dr Gina Clarke, Consultant Community Paediatrician. Tel. No. 01872 254514. Email: georgina.clarke2@nhs.net
