We are looking to recruit a full time Specialty Doctor to join the Older Peoples Mental Health Inpatient Services at The Julian Hospital in Norwich. The vacancy has arisen as a result of redeployment of a middle grade doctor on Beach ward, a dementia assessment ward for male patients in the purpose built dementia unit, Hammerton Court

Main duties of the job

The Post Holder's main day to day clinical role is providing Specialty doctor for Beach Ward at the Julian Hospital. The proposed hours will be 9-5 Monday to Friday, there is some flexibility in this.

There is an expectation that the post holder will join the on-call rota, but this depends on the experience and seniority of the post holder. There is a tier 1 residential on call with mostly core trainees. Specialty trainees and post membership middle grade doctors who have approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) usually join the non resident tier 2 on call rota.

The on call rota covers the Hellesdon Hospital site, Northside house and the Julian hospital site. The Tier One rota is currently a 1 in 20 with one trainee working up to 21.00 at Hellesdon and one working up to 21.00 covering Northside House and the Julian. The night duty covers all of these sites. There are on call facilities at the Hellesdon and Julian hospital sites. The middle tier rota is currently a 1 in 8 and is non resident and is undertaken from home.

The post holder will provide care for up to 13 patients on a male dementia assessment ward. The post holder is expected to show a degree of flexibility and co-operation with the team and to work in a multi disciplinary team.
