Head of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Services

We are actively recruiting for a new Head of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Services. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of the Senior Management Corporate team at HCA Healthcare UK, the UK's leading private patient healthcare provider and specialists in hospital complex care.

  • Contract: Permanent:
  • Full Time; Monday to Friday
  • Salary and rewards: Competitive, Private medical healthcare insurance, contributory pension, 25 days annual leave + bank holidays, which increases with years of service, or optional buy more incentives plans.
  • Location: Cavendish Square, London, W1G and some remote working (Will require HCA UK hospital site travel)
  • Reporting to: Director of Medical Services

The Impact you will have

The Head of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Services is a high profile career opportunity, Cardiac is one of the more established and core service lines for the organisation, so there is a lot of responsibility that goes with it. For that reason, it is evident and you'll be working with senior stakeholders throughout the business. In addition, managing CEO matrix relationships to drive quality, revenue, and profit growth across HCA UK facilities in this specialist service line.

This is an alternative career opportunity for a trained cardiology clinician, or physician, to project and commercially lead and manage all aspects of cardiovascular and thoracic services, from programme development, doctor alignment, cost containment and quality & governance.

  • The commercial aspects of the role are the focus and which are what you're held accountable to (financial and procedural) – ultimately looking to grow the cardiovascular business
  • Varied in its position, from securing and negotiating contracts with insurers, to demonstrating quality to corporates, to recruiting critical doctors and building complex programs around them, to putting in business cases for the latest equipment
  • The essential skill that's vital to all of this is communication and the ability to build a strong network of people around you. You won't have all the answers all the time, so it's essential to be respected and have a level of trust with your colleagues to turn to. The ability to build rapport early with people goes a long way.
  • There may be big decisions with many stakeholders involved. It's vital to remain measured and level headed and have the ability to choose an option and stick with it.
  • You will have responsibility for the direction and implementation of the strategy for the service line, so you'll need to be able to spot trends in healthcare and bring them into HCA for us to continue to be innovators in the private healthcare space.

Successful Applicants will need to demonstrate;

  • Postgrad clinical or physician qualification
  • A significant cardiology clinical or medical experience, in an acute healthcare sector, desirably in private healthcare,
  • Experience in developing and implementing a business-wide commercial and business development strategy, including governance and knowledge of consultant and insurer partnerships
  • Ability to analyse and present deliverable information to key stakeholder groups at all seniority levels.
  • Making a recommendation on performance objectives with practical and influential interpersonal skills,
