Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine
Would you like a stimulating and challenging critical care job in an attractive, well connected part of England? Do you want to maintain a broad range of critical care skills in a DGH? Do you want to keep working in a second specialist area of practice?
We are looking for Intensive Care Medicine Consultants to join us in our 560 bed modern district general hospital in beautiful North Wiltshire. Swindon is a rapidly growing town surrounded by glorious countryside. The Great Western Hospital benefits from easy access to the M4 and road connections north to the Cotswolds. There are excellent rail links as well.
Recruitment incentives are available as well as a generous relocation package. There are ample opportunities to grow as a consultant including an in house, cross specialty quality improvement programme (Network and Navigate) and a clinical leadership course linked to Keele University (HELM) with time available to undertake these.
A specialty interest in Intensive Care is essential. For candidates with a second specialty interest, there is an opportunity to combine this. Our current consultants are all anaesthetists and they provide elective anaesthesia for a variety of DGH surgical specialties. We actively encourage the development of a specialist anaesthetic interest.
The on call commitment would be 1:10 for Intensive Care.
There is a well-equipped intensive care unit with 12 single rooms. 4 are separated to provide a sealed area to manage patients with Covid. During Covid, we have expanded into the adjacent theatre suite as necessary.
There is a comprehensive outreach service and a developing follow-up clinic. A FICE training programme has been established and an ICS accredited echocardiography course is run in the hospital twice a year. The South West adult critical care transfer service is now a year old and provides support for inter-hospital transfers.
To discuss the post and arrange an informal visit, please contact Dr Mark Yeates, Clinical Lead Critical Care via e-mail (mark.yeates1@nhs.net) or by telephone on 01793 607106.
