Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist
The Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Service Group within Swansea Bay University Health Board are seeking to appoint a Consultant Psychiatrist who will work within the multidisciplinary Prison In-Reach team.
SBUHB has responsibility for the health of over 500,000 people and is one of the largest providers of integrated healthcare in the UK. With a budget of over £1 billion and employing 12,000 people the Health Board provides acute, tertiary, intermediate, mental health, community and primary care services to people in Swansea and beyond. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science.

The Mental Health & Learning Disabilities Service Group within Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBU HB) provides a broad range of community and inpatient services to a wide population, and is responsible for providing Adult Mental Health Services, Older People Mental Health Services, Substance Misuse Services, Rehabilitation & Recovery Services, Forensic Psychiatry Services and Learning Disabilities Services.
This post will provide you with an opportunity to make a difference to the Prison In-Reach Service that we provide to adults within HMP Parc and HMP Swansea. We are looking for an individual who shares our Health Board Values; 'Caring for each other; working together; always improving', and can also offer us new and innovative ideas to explore within their designated area.
The Prison In-Reach Consultant Psychiatrist will be responsible for clinically leading the Prison In-Reach Team and will be based in HMP's Parc which is a small multidisciplinary team of enthusiastic, hardworking and committed colleagues delivering high quality care including registered nurses, occupational therapists and psychologists. The team provide treatment and care to a cohort of male service users including specialist mental health assessment to inmates that have been either referred by Primary Care Services or were already under the Mental Health Measure. The post holder also has the lead responsibility for creating plans for safe release, pathway planning to local area mental health services and the coordination of transfers of inmates to specialist mental health hospital services.
