Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Cardiothoracic surgery is a consultant-led service at GOSH and the appointee will be expected to sustain that philosophy, providing appropriate support for colleagues and juniors.

The appointee will operate a minimum of 1 full and 2 half-day sessions per week. Consultants are expected to and frequently do operate together on complex or unusual cases, which form a considerable proportion of our work.  This too increases the operating exposure of the successful appointee.

The appointee would also be expected to cover the mechanical support, heart failure and cardiothoracic transplant programme at GOSH.

There is outpatient responsibility with this post at GOSH. All the surgeons see patients and families by appointment.

The appointee will be expected to join all relevant multidisciplinary meetings when possible, particularly the Joint Cardiothoracic Conference on Thursday and the Morbidity and Mortality meeting and surgical planning meeting on Friday mornings at GOSH.
