POST OF CONSULTANT GERIATRICIAN, ACUTE CARE OF ELDERLY

DR GRAY’S HOSPITAL, ELGIN

In Moray we do things a bit differently.

We’re different because we focus on relationships across the traditional boundaries of care to provide high quality, proactive, person-centred care.

We’re different because we’re small enough that things are efficient and direct, but big enough that you have robust support and access to everything you need.

We’re different because clinicians influence and lead on developing models of care that serve our population.

We’re different because we value you as a professional and can be completely flexible in developing a job for you that allows you to explore your professional interests, deliver good care, and respects your work-life balance.

We’re different because you can work and live in a beautiful and thriving corner of Scotland, with world-class leisure pursuits, welcoming people, and a great quality of life.

Applications are invited for a Consultant Geriatrician post to join the innovative Medicine for the Elderly Team based in Moray with supportive pan-Grampian links.

We can accommodate any subspecialty interest, with the opportunity to develop models of care in Orthogeriatrics, Surgical Liaison, Movement Disorders, Stroke, and delivering care at home.

We value your non-clinical time, and we particularly encourage interest in teaching, mentoring, and quality improvement.

We are happy to support flexible working and, while you can take part in the medical on-call rota if desired, there is no out of hours or weekend commitment expected.

We are a core part of the wider Department of Geriatric Medicine in Grampian, with weekly meetings, cross Grampian models of service delivery, and shared strategic vision. Aberdeen University has a professorial department of Old Age Medicine, providing the opportunity for undergraduate teaching and research.

We are developing a bespoke front door model at Dr Gray’s Hospital with strong, integrated community links. Staff work across this interface to facilitate seamless early community discharge through an established Discharge to Assess model. The current redesign of ED, General Medicine and Ambulatory Emergency Care gives an exciting opportunity to play a full part in creating and crafting a new and emergent high quality service.

We have great relationships with Moray GPs and flourishing community care models within our 3 community hospitals. We link in to regular GP practice-based MDT meetings and are developing our upstream admission prevention model by further alignment of a range of multi-professionals to each GP practice.

The Moray Health and Social Care Partnership in conjunction with Dr Gray’s Hospital Elgin and NHS Grampian have a joint ambitious strategy for Older People which demonstrates an absolute commitment to this population. The current developments are genuinely co-led by Clinicians, supported by Management as we develop plans for Home First, Hospital at Home, Interface Working and Hospital Site Developments.

Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC is required. For more information visit www.gmc-uk.org

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.

Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made.  Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.

If you are interested in joining the team at Dr Gray’s we would be delighted to invite you to visit the Hospital and speak to our Clinicians about the work of the department as well as an insight to the recreational activities in the surrounding area.
