An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant Luminal Gastroenterologist based at Whipps Cross, Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful post holder will be working alongside an established gastroenterology team to support a large provision of inpatient, outpatient and endoscopy care. A candidate with specialist interest in nutrition would be an added advantage.
The post holder will be able to provide a full portfolio of gastrointestinal services including inpatient and outpatient care for patients with general gastroenterology problems, perform endoscopy procedures and being a part of the GI Bleed rota. Furthermore, the appointee will be provided with great opportunities and facilities to pursue his/her interest in luminal gastroenterology, either upper GI or Lower GI (inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition) and small bowel disease including capsule endoscopy).
Gastroenterology sits within the Division of Medicine directorate. The gastroenterology service is a large service and treats approximately 8000 outpatients, 7000 endoscopic diagnostic procedures and 500 patient admissions each year. The department provides a wide range of services including nutrition, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease and functional bowel disorders. The hospital also has a 14 bedded clinical research unit, where excellent facilities for clinical research, currently running 17 NIHR portfolio clinical trials.
There is an exciting Whipps Cross redevelopment plan to build a new hospital by 2024 and work will commence from beginning of 2022, with plans to include a purpose built endoscopy unit with integrated screening for the Department. We are part of East London & the National Bowel cancer screening program.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and be on the Specialist Register or or within 6 months of completion of CCT.
