Emergency General Surgical Consultant
Consultant in Emergency General Surgery
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is building an Emergency General Surgery service. We are putting together a team to take on the challenge of this new and growing specialty. After a very competitive and successful Phase 1 with the appointment of 2 strong Consultant colleagues alongside 3 dedicated Emergency Nurse Practitioners and the 2 EGS middle grades, we are going out to Phase 2 appointments and are looking for 2 more consultant colleagues to join the team, to be visionary, to be a part of creating a centre of excellence from the outset. We have it all here, we just need you.
The EGS team will comprise of six new consultants, two new middle grades, five SCPs plus additional admin support staff. A team we believe will provide the foundation to drive forward evidence based emergency surgical care and create a cohesive unit with expertise in training and research. We need the right people for this ... creative, imaginative, collaborative and with dogged positivity!
Full support will be in place to develop all and any subspecialty interests within job plan whether UGI, colorectal, children's surgery or advanced endoscopy. The current Specialty Leads have built the business case and first steps but we need YOU to make the next steps happen.

Cornwall is a beautiful county which offers an outstanding quality of life and providing many opportunities for outdoor activities, with its sailing waters, surfing beaches and rugged coastal pathways for walking, and cycling. There is a thriving arts and theatre scene as well as an interesting variety of eating places, including celebrity-owned restaurants within Cornwall. The major route in and out of the county is the A30 which connects with the M5 motorway at Exeter. There is an excellent rail service with daily passenger and sleeper services, and an airport at Newquay with daily connections to many cities throughout the UK and abroad.
