Job Details
DUTIES OF THE POST:
It is expected that the post holders shall become fully involved in all activities of the Anaesthetic Department.
The post holders will:-
- Support the Consultants in the management of emergency and planned anaesthesia in Theatre and the Labour Ward. The post holder will be recognised as an essential member of the Anaesthetic team, but under Consultant supervision.
- Participate in Consultant led assessments and treatment of patients for Anaesthesia and High Dependency Care.
- Participate in the duty roster to manage level 2 patients in the High Dependency Unit and transfer critically sick patients to other hospital for ICU management.
- Undertake administrative duties as required for the efficient running of the service.
- Participate in audit and in any programme of research, which is being conducted in the department.
- Develop or maintain a special interest.
- Contribute to the programme of postgraduate activities within the hospital.
- Assist and take part in postgraduate/undergraduate teaching of medical and nursing staff within the department.
- Participate in the ongoing management of patients in the hospital prior to transfer to other hospitals for ICU care.
- Be expected to undertake continuing medical education and specialist training related to the practice of anaesthesia.
- Use Trust wide and departmental computer technology in line with the Trust’s Information Management and Technology Strategy.
- Be available for such irregular duties as are essential for the continuity of patient care.
- Part of the rationale for the creation of this post is to provide a higher level of experienced cover for the hospital, the post holder will be expected to participate in the first on-call rota (9pm-9am).
