CT2 in Anaesthetics and Critical Care
The post is for a period of one year initially, renewable by mutual consent. The post holder will work flexibly within the Trust, deputising in theatre for Consultant absences and providing on-call cover for obstetrics and ICU at equivalent to CT2 grade. Further training, and ongoing supervision in these sub-specialities will be provided as needed and required. The department will support staff members who wish to take the FRCA exams and will actively encourage the post holder to participate in the audit, research and educational activities of the department.
Main duties of the job
The post is for 40 hours per week and the post holder will participate in a 1 in 8 full shift rota covering Critical Care or Obstetric Anaesthesia. The successful candidates will be working 7 nights, 7 long days (08:00-20:30) and 21 normal days (08:00-17:30) in an 8 week period. The rota is fully compliant with the European Working Time Directive including internal cover.

The Anaesthetic Department provides services at Peterborough City and Stamford Hospitals (chronic pain management), with some consultants doing ad hoc lists at Hinchingbrooke. The work undertaken by the Department includes all the surgical specialities with the exception of cardio-thoracic, major vascular and neurosurgery.
The total workload in Peterborough comprises approximately 22,000 operations per annum; there are approximately 2,700 emergency procedures carried out and over 5500 obstetric deliveries.
- Full GMC registration
- Minimum 6 months anaesthesia and ITU experience in a UK training post or equivalent
- Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
- MBBS or equivalent
- 12 months anaesthesia and ICU experience in UK training post
- Previous audit completed
