Deputy Medical Director - Minehead Medical Centre

Our newly formed Employee Owned Trust is looking to recruit a Deputy Medical Director. We are a practice of around 13000 patients and have recently moved from a partnership to an Employee Owned Trust in order to capitalise on involving our entire team in the future of our business. We have embraced multi-disciplinary working for a long time and our new venture allows us to offer a greater range of leadership opportunities to all staff.

We are looking for a GP to take on the deputy medical director role and support our existing medical director in managing the medical team. We are looking for a GP who is happy to embrace change and to help us develop our services. The deputy medical director will also
support the medical director with engagement with other providers, particularly through the PCN. They will also support colleagues with personal development and taking on leadership roles within the practice and the PCN.

We have a strong track record of developing clinicians including medical students, Physician’s assistants, Paramedic’s, Nurse Practitioner’s, as well as Foundation Year doctors and Medical, registrars. We have supported/mentored clinicians through prescribing courses, and Contraceptive services updates and have processes in place to ensure that all staff work within their skill set whilst working at the top of their game.

There is a dedicated supervising GP – open door doctor to help with any enquiries from any clinical staff during the daily consultations. We promote a safe working day and manage workload accordingly. We work as one clinical team to manage the daily workload and avoid
working in silo’s.

Minehead is a small seaside town with a population just under 12,000. It is known as the Gateway to Exmoor and attracts a significant number of tourists, particularly to Butlins. Our nearest hospital, Musgrove Park, is 25 miles away which does mean that our team (which
includes paramedics) have to keep their pre-hospital care skills up to date. This makes for an occasionally challenging but rewarding working day.

Minehead is within easy commuter distance of many of the small, picturesque villages to the north of Taunton and there are plenty of excellent rural pubs in the surrounding area. West Somerset is popular for having easy access to the South-West coastal path and having some excellent cycling routes both on and off road.
