Love Respiratory Medicine? You will love UHBW.

Applications are warmly invited for two Consultants in Respiratory Medicine with a subspecialist interest. The successful applicants will benefit from living and working in and around the beautiful and diverse city of Bristol. A relocation package is available and candidates wishing to work less than full-time can be accommodated and are encouraged to apply.

In particular, we would encourage applicants with interests in Tuberculosis, Respiratory Infections or Cystic Fibrosis. However, we would also consider applicants with other subspecialist interests and we would strongly encourage you to contact the Respiratory Clinical Leads if you would like to discuss further.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic, inspiring and expanding team, led by twelve respiratory physicians providing a number of subspecialist services including Tuberculosis, Cystic Fibrosis, Respiratory Infections, Asthma, COPD, Sleep and NIV service, Interstitial Lung Disease, Lung Cancer, and Pleural medicine. We have specialist physiotherapist , respiratory nurse specialist and physiology teams and a state of the art lung function service. A number of regular MDTs are held jointly across the Trust and North Bristol Trust including tuberculosis and non tuberculous mycobacterial infections. UHBW hosts the regional CF service. We are recognised as an MDRTB service in association with North Bristol Trust.

There is a daily respiratory "Hot" clinic staffed in rotation by the respiratory consultant team, together with support from the Respiratory Nurse Specialist Team, seeing non cancer urgent GP referrals. Consultants deliver a bronchoscopy and EBUS service.

The Respiratory inpatient bed base includes a dedicated, recently built 36-bed Respiratory ward containing our high care unit and a second 14 bedded respiratory ward. Ward care is supported by a large team of junior doctors and Physician Associates. There are close working relationships with Critical Care alongside specialist Respiratory physiotherapy and nursing staff. The care provided to patients with COVID-19 has helped develop and expand our Respiratory High Care Unit with both local and national recognition of the pivotal role the Respiratory team played in supporting patients with respiratory failure. The respiratory consultants participate in the general medical on call and a weekend respiratory specialty on call rota.
