Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is pleased to announce this high quality and exciting post, which has been designed primarily for trainees who wish to gain experience in plastic surgery. This post is an ideal steppingstone prior to formal national deanery appointment. The post offers opportunities for applicants to develop skills and build on their portfolio. Our post combines education and career development with practical patient-facing care.
The post holder will be assigned an educational supervisor and is expected to achieve competencies set out by the ISCP based on current level of experience.
An Introduction to the Division/Specialty from Head of service
A vacancy has arisen in the Surgical Division for Fy3-St1 equivalent doctor. The post is to commence immediately and end in August 2022. You will need to have successfully completed the FY2 year of training and worked within the NHS for a minimum of 6 months in any medical or surgical speciality including general practice.
You will be based at Pinderfields hospital in Wakefield with potential peripheral sessions at Dewsbury District Hospital and Pontefract Hospital. You will be expected to work within the department of plastic surgery.
The post holders will not have any on call commitments. They will work an equivalent of 40 hours a week. As a supernumerary trainee, you may be asked to undertake on call shifts at short notice to cover sickness. Any hours worked after 8pm or at weekends will carry an additional payment. Any change in daytime hours will be balanced with zero days.
The post holder will work in collaboration with and under the direction of the Consultants and other members of the teams in the day to day management of patients within the service. Duties include ward rounds, assisting the consultants and senior trainees in the operating theatre, undertaking the pre and post-operative care of patients on the wards, attending out-patient clinics and attending to referrals in the Emergency Department. The post holders will have the opportunity to attend departmental teaching every week. They will also be encouraged to undertake continuing medical education and study leave will be available as per the Trust policy.

We will encourage, support and provide the opportunity to study and practice for your post-graduate exams, undertake audit/research projects, attend on-site educational programmes and simulation surgery. Study budget and study leave are included.
These posts will be part of our cross site "junior trainee" rota - which is compliant with working time regulations and the 2016 junior doctor's contract, averaging 48 hours per week.
We may be in a position to offer the successful applicant the opportunity to take up any other full time surgical posts at FY2-ST1 (working on the FY/CT on call rota) if such posts become available at the time or after the interview.
