Applications are invited for the new post of Consultant Breast Radiologist to work across the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and Breast Test Wales.

The post holder will have sessions as both the Cardiff Breast Centre - a dedicated purpose-built centre situated at University Hospital Llandough - and the Breast Test Wales screening centre situated in the centre of Cardiff, the popular capital city of Wales. Both centres consist of clinic rooms, state-of-the-art radiology facilities, counselling rooms, multidisciplinary teaching room, offices for staff, and at the Llandough Breast Centre there is a gym facility for patient's exercise prescription service. The Llandough unit currently has four full-time Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons and a Specialty Doctor. Both units have active multidisciplinary teams with dedicated Breast Care Nurses, research team, and a physiotherapist. There is close working with plastic surgery colleagues in Swansea and the All Wales Genetics Service. There is a dedicated breast in-patient ward at University Hospital Llandough. Oncology services are delivered at our neighbouring Velindre Hospital site.

The post holder will work with the current Consultants in consolidating the secondary care service of the Cardiff and Vale symptomatic breast service as well as in Breast Test Wales contributing to delivery of the All Wales population breast cancer screening programme.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.

Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.

Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.

You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £82,356 per annum to £106,920 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.

Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
