Job Details

Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) invites applications for a Consultant Radiologists with a subspecialist interest in Breast imaging to join our cohesive, energetic and supportive team of 26 Consultant Radiologists. This post partly replaces 3 sessions due to recent departure of a colleague and also forms part of continued expansion of the Breast imaging service. The department can accommodate candidates where Breast Radiology is their sole subspecialty or those who wish to combine Breast imaging with other subspecialties.

The Mermaid Breast imaging centre is a bespoke dedicated stand alone unit within the acute trust. You would join an existing team of 5 Consultant Breast Radiologists and a Consultant Breast Radiographer.

The unit was recently inspected (September 2018) as part of the NHSBSP QA and received substantial praise for the quality of service provided. In addition the Clinical imaging department was recently rated as outstanding by the Care Quality commission in December 2018. The department has also been recently successful in achieving ISAS accreditation in December 2018.

RCHT is a large teaching hospital, serving a population of 420,000. The Clinical Imaging Directorate has consistently met all diagnostic and treatment targets, delivers a 7 day imaging service and 24/7 on-call diagnostic radiology services with a separate 24/7 interventional radiology on call rota.

The diagnostic Radiology Consultant on-call rota is 1:11. RCHT Imaging hosts Radiology Registrars on rotation from the Peninsula Radiology Academy and is actively involved in supporting the Registrar training programme. The Registrars provide seamless first on call cover via the Peninsula Radiology on call (PROC) arrangement with Torbay, Exeter and North Devon.

Cornwall is a beautiful county which offers an outstanding quality of life and providing many opportunities for outdoor activities, with its sailing waters, surfing beaches and rugged coastal pathways for walking, and cycling. There is a thriving arts and theatre scene as well as an interesting variety of eating places, including celebrity-owned restaurants within Cornwall. The major route both in and out of the county is the A30 which connects with the M5 motorway at Exeter. There are rail services with daily passenger and sleeper services and an airport at Newquay with daily connections to many cities throughout the UK and abroad.

Do you have a partner and family who would relocate with you? If so, then please contact us as we have a variety of employment opportunities within the hospital and would be happy to discuss this with you.

Applicants are required to be on the GMC Register, or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / EU equivalent certification training and experience at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Informal enquires about this post should be addressed to Dr. Miklos Barta, Specialty Director Breast Imaging, by email miklos.barta@nhs.net or telephone 01872 252285.
