At Camden and Islington NHS foundation trust our staff and service users have worked closely to create a set of values that make sure people who use our services get the best possible chance of a rapid recovery.

The cultural pillars that help us achieve our key priorities are:

  • We value each other
  • We are empowered
  • We keep things simple
  • We are connected

By coming to work at Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust you will be joining a Trust with a national reputation for research, where services recognise that research underpins its commitment to providing high quality and innovative clinical care.

As an applicant for this role, you are urged to demonstrate within your supporting statement a combination of evidence that reflects your competence to meet the job specification and provide examples of how C&I Cultural pillars are an integral part of the way you have and will continue to deliver service.

By applying for this role, you accept in the event you are successful that your personal data may be transferred from the Trust to another NHS organisation where your employment transfers within the NHS. This is in accordance with the streamlining programme which is aimed at improving efficiencies within the NHS both to make costs savings for NHS organisations but also to save you time when your employment transfers. Therefore we want you to complete your e-learning modules prior to joining our organisation.

The post offered is a substantive part-time position covering liaison psychiatry with a specific focus on the older adult population. The hospital liaison service is integrated and the old age liaison consultant post holder will also cover general adult cases when required. They will predominantly manage ward-based liaison referrals but will also see cases in A&E when required. The post is available immediately. This is an established post and has arisen as the previous post holder has moved into another clinical position within the Trust.

This will be a 6 PA post as Consultant Psychiatrist in liaison psychiatry.

The post holder will work in an integrated way with the rest of the liaison team, it is anticipated that they will prioritise referrals of older adult patients. The liaison team provides a 24/7 integrated model of care for all patients in keeping with the RAID model and the post holder will work as part of this team, and provide assessments for patients across the age range. They will also be expected to participate in the assessments of general adult patients. They will also assist other team members in their development of skills relevant to the assessment and care of older adult patients.

The post holder, along with other hospital based Liaison consultants at UCLH, Royal Free and Whittington hospitals, will provide occasional annual leave cross-cover for the MHCAS Consultant. The Trust ultimately aims to ensure a flexible and fluid cover interface between the MHCAS and hospital-based Liaison service. In keeping with this, the postholder (and their trainees) will very occasionally be expected to assess patients in A&E when required.

The post-holder will not have immediate formal clinical supervision responsibilities for trainees within the team but will be expected to provide day to day informal supervision of their work as required. (They may be expected to undertake formal clinical supervision responsibilities as and when required.) The post holder will have operational responsibility to the Associate Divisional Manager and professional responsibility to the Divisional Clinical Director.

It is anticipated that the postholder will usually have, on average, 1-2 direct patient contacts per clinical session (depending on complexity and previous contacts) as well as providing advice and supervision for other medical/MDT assessments.

The Trust became a Foundation Trust in February 2008 and continues as a mental health organisation. It has well established links with the United Royal Free and University College London medical schools and the North London Junior and higher Psychiatric training schemes.

Camden is an exciting multicultural Central London borough and the team is based close to the heart of the varied shops, cafes and cultural amenities in the area.

Applicants should have their CCT or be within their last year of training and ideally have sought consent from their consultant trainer and confirmed they are eligible to do this.

Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a license to practice is essential.

Interviews will be held virtually.

AAC date to be confirmed.
