We are a seven partner and three salaried GPs team and have a vacancy for a 4-8 session Salaried GP.
The clinical team provides the strength, mutual support and respect that have enabled us to provide the best possible service to our patients and a happy, secure and supportive workplace for our staff.
Glastonbury is a small, friendly market town set in the beautiful countryside of Somerset.
The Tor dominates the landscape alongside the ruins of the Abbey around which the town was established.
Glastonbury has both a medieval and spiritual history which has attracted over the years a diverse population who live alongside many long established families in the area. This all contributes to the uniqueness of the town now famous for the annual Glastonbury Festival. Glastonbury attracts complimentary practices in the town; we however provide conventional family medicine as this suits the vast majority of our practice population.
We have a local theatre in Street offering a programme of live shows and cinema. We are one hour from both Bristol and Bath and have easy two hour access to London. We are a family orientated practice and are well served by schools and sixth form colleges, both state and private; the latter including Millfield School and Wells Cathedral School.
We have a list size of 13,850, 10 GPs, 2 GP Registrars and are supported by 4 Nurse Practitioners, a team of Practice Nurses and HCAs, administrative, secretarial and reception staff. We operate a flexible personal list system and feel strongly that this is the basis of good primary care. West Mendip Hospital located in the town provides community beds and services for our patients including a minor injuries unit. We refer on to secondary care at Musgrove Park Hospital Taunton, Yeovil District Hospital and on occasion to Bristol Hospitals, Royal United Hospital Bath, Weston-super-Mare, Dorchester and Exeter. We use EMIS web clinical system. We serve the population of Glastonbury, Street and the surrounding villages and currently hold a PMS contract. The Surgery is purpose built with an on-site Pharmacy.
We have a formal and regular business planning cycle to ensure that we effectively manage the rapidly changing environment we are in, optimising opportunities for the practice and have a track record of innovation.
We have a three year rotational appointment of the Chair of the Partners who works closely with the practice manager.
All Partners have responsibility for practice business and clinical (QOF) areas. This system shares business responsibility amongst the partners and offers mutual support and understanding, and this works very well for us.
One of our Partners, Dr Karen Sylvester, is Chair of the Somerset Local Medical Committee.
We are a research practice and a site for the National Institute for Health Research, Clinical Research Network South West Peninsula and actively participate and are remunerated for involvement in research projects each year.
We are a GP training practice with three trainers and usually have 2 GP Registrars. We also support both administrative and HCA apprenticeships currently in partnership with Western College.
We provide medical officers to Millfield School; offer a Young Peoples clinic; LARC clinics and one of our Partners is a Menopause specialist. We have CCG funded pharmacist support for medicines management and offer First Contact Physiotherapy through our PCN
We are part of West Mendip Primary Care Network. We also work with other local practices in the delivery of Your Health and Wellbeing Mendip and West Mendip Symphony project offering Health Connections Mendip services (social prescribing) to our patients.
