Nottingham Children's Hospital is seeking to recruit a locum Consultant Community Paediatrician on 8.5 PAs to join the Community Paediatrics service for a period of 12 months. 

The post holders will be an integral part of Nottingham Childrens Hospital Community Paediatric team, delivering services within 3 geographically defined localities in Nottingham/shire (Bulwell, Broxtowe, City South) and Children Development Centre (CDC).

The post holder will be in good standing with the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and to register for and partake in the RCPCH Continuing Professional Development scheme.

Applicants must be on the GMC specialist register, or within 6 months of their expected date of CCT at time of interview.

Nottingham Children's Hospital provides a comprehensive range of specialist services for children in Nottingham, together with tertiary paediatric and neonatal services to the adjacent areas of Lincolnshire, Derbyshire and North Nottinghamshire, surgical services for Stoke on Trent in the Midlands and neurosurgical services for Leicestershire.

Community Paediatrics is one of the specialist services provided by Nottingham Childrens Hospital.

The Community Paediatric service has an establishment of approximately 21 whole time equivalent doctors. The work is in five geographical patches, each patch team led by a consultant who also carries district wide responsibilities. The teams all have slightly different composition with a mixture of consultants, associate specialists, specialty doctors and trainees. Together, the team provide comprehensive general and specialist community child health services.

Job responsibilities  


The post holders will be required to undertake the following duties:

  • Contribute to the Community Paediatric service in the localities of Nottingham/shire and CDC. This will include general paediatric clinics and assessment, diagnosis and management of neurodevelopmental conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and ADHD. The service will be delivered within community based clinics, through referral from GPs via the Paediatric Navigation Hub.
  • Provide paediatric medical advice and support to health, education and social care colleagues within the locality including provision of reports and attendance at CAF/TAC/Multiagency meetings as appropriate.
  • Provide health reports to education and social care for statutory processes (e.g. Education, Health and Care Plans, child protection /care proceedings)
  • Participate in the daily safeguarding rota for physical non-accidental injury based at QMC, examining children, writing reports, providing statements for the police and court and providing evidence at court as a professional witness.
  • Participate in the daily safeguarding rota for Child Sexual Assault rota based at the East Midlands Children and Young Person Sexual Assault Suite (EMCYPSAS), which is a Regional service within the QMC and part the Community paediatric service.
  • Participate in peer review for safeguarding, community and general paediatric patients
  • Contribute to the monthly community paediatric business meeting and department CPD meetings.
  • Teaching on the undergraduate and postgraduate training programme and supervision of medical students and specialty trainees within the clinic setting.
