Job Details

King's is a key partner in one of London's foremost Academic Health Science Centres, King's Health Partners (KHP). KHP is one of only six Department of Health-designated AHSCs in England. It brings together a world-leading research-led university - King's College London - and three successful NHS Foundation Trusts: King's College Hospital, Guy's and St Thomas', and South London and Maudsley.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of our dedicated workforce and join one of the largest and most successful Foundation Trusts in the UK with an international reputation for innovation and the desire to make a difference.

Applications are invited for this 10PA full time post in Paediatric Intensive Care based at the Department of Child Health in the Variety Children's Hospital at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCHFT). King's College Hospital is a major London teaching hospital which has many tertiary paediatric specialist services and also provides general paediatric services for a large multi-ethnic inner city population. KCHFT is part of London's most comprehensive Academic Health Sciences Centre (King's Health Partners), along with King's College London and Guys and St Thomas' (GSTT) and the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trusts. KCHFT has a very busy A and E with more than 25000 paediatric attendances and an extremely busy Trauma centre. King's is one of the largest liver transplant centres in the world.

This post provides an exciting opportunity for the post-holder to join a team of 7 Paediatric intensivists and 2 Anaesthetists. King's Trauma Centre is one of the best performing networks in the UK and with a new helipad, the time for seriously injured patients to reach King's will be considerably reduced. There will be an exciting opportunity for the post holder to work closely with the Trauma network and get involved in governance and research in the department of neurosciences. Similarly, there will be an opportunity to work with the world-renowned liver/gastroenterology teams at KCHFT.

The job plan will be subject to review through annual team job planning. It is envisaged that the post holder would share the increasing leadership responsibilities that specialist commissioning now imparts on the director of a major Paediatric Intensive Care Unit. King's provides excellent training for 6 Paediatric trainees from London/KSS deanery and 6 Trust grade/Clinical Fellows. There would be a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

The successful applicant should have wide experience in all aspects of Paediatric Intensive Care and High Dependency Care including 6 months of formal training in Paediatric Anaesthesia. There will be wide opportunities for research and the successful candidate would be able to apply for an honorary academic title appropriate to their research and teaching contribution within the AHSC.

Interested applicants are invited to discuss the post with Dr Akash Deep (Consultant Paediatric Intensivist and Head of PICU) and arrange an informal visit to the Unit via Lisa Williams by telephoning 020 3299 4697 or e-mailing lisawilliams5@nhs.net

You must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.

The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years), therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

AAC Interview Date: 16/12/21.
