Opportunity for a Consultant in Public Health/Public Health Medicine motivated by social justice and a passion for reducing health inequities, to work in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, Wales. The Health Board has identified addressing health inequity as an urgent priority to improve the health outcomes of some of the most socio-economically disadvantaged populations in Wales. The Health Board is responsible for improving the population health of close to 600,000 people living in the Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Newport and Torfaen Local Authority areas. Working with the Executive Director of Public Health, a team of 4 Consultants and a high calibre team of Principals, Seniors and Practitioners you will lead a public health portfolio with progress evidenced by outcomes. You will work closely with Primary and Community Care and other Health Board divisions.
We are looking for an individual to lead the following portfolio:
Mental wellbeing, suicide prevention, reducing harm from gambling, substance misuse and vulnerable groups including asylum seekers and outreach and preventative healthcare services.
Your responsibilities will cover all areas of Public Health professional practice, including:
- Population Health Improvement
- Reducing Health Inequities
- Health Care Quality and Improvement
- Health Protection
- Health Intelligence,
- Research and Development
- Contribute to population health advice to the Local Authorities of Torfaen
- Contribute to the strategic planning by and delivery through partner organisations, including the Public Services Board(s).
A detailed job plan will be drawn up with the Executive Director of Public Health, upon appointment, drawing on the key tasks outlined in the Job Description.
The successful applicant will have demonstrable experience at a senior level and highly developed influencing, negotiation and motivational skills to drive transformational change.

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC/GDC/UKPHR Specialist Register in Public Health
Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
