There never has been a more exciting time to join us; University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) and Weston Area Health Trust have joined to become one organisation. Our newly merged Trust has a combined workforce of over 13,000 staff, aiming to deliver exceptional local services for local people and specialist services across the South West. Together, we form one of the largest NHS trusts in the country.

The Department of General Anaesthesia sits within the Division of Surgery; however the wider anaesthesia service bridges four clinical divisions of UHBW: Surgery (general anaesthesia and critical care), Specialised Services (cardiac anaesthesia), Women's and Children's (paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia) and Weston. The department of anaesthesia is seeking two consultants in general anaesthesia to join the team based at Weston General Hospital. Both posts will be offered at 10 PAs. The successful candidate will join the team in supporting a busy and high quality service providing general anaesthesia in a small hospital, with the support of and close work with the wider department across all UHBW sites.

The role will be based at Weston General Hospital, and will support the provision of general anaesthesia services for a variety of specialties, including Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Gynaecology, Urology and Orthopaedics. There may be opportunity to work across the UHBW sites; however applicants should expect the majority of their work to focus on Weston. In addition to daytime sessions, the appointee will participate in the weekend and evening on-call rota, including emergency operating until 20:00 each day. The department of anaesthesia supports the pre-operative assessment service, and as such the appointee will contribute to this area. As UHBW is a teaching trust with close links to the University of Bristol; the appointee will be committed to delivering excellent teaching and training.

Candidates are required to hold full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with license to practise, or be eligible for this within six months of interview. We are looking for candidates who are able to evidence broad training and experience in the specialties offered at Weston General Hospital, and who are willing to share their knowledge and experience with trainees and junior colleagues. Although there may be opportunity to develop a special interest, we are looking for applicants who are willing to work flexibly to ensure smooth service delivery. Further details are available in the person specification.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and evolving general anaesthesia service at UHBW. You will benefit from being an integral member of a small consultant team based at Weston, with the wider support and membership of the 90 consultant anaesthetist team across UHBW, including 33 general anaesthetists.

Weston-Super-Mare is situated in picturesque countryside and is easily commutable distance from Bristol. The hospital itself has many great benefits including on-site parking and five minute walk to the beach.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information; we look forward to hearing from you.
