Consultants in Infection / Microbiology
3 Consultants in Infection – 10 PAs
(1 x Consultant in Infectious diseases and 2 x Consultant Medical Microbiologists)
We are looking for 3 dynamic and enthusiastic colleagues to join our innovative, fully integrated Department of Infection (DoI), which currently has an establishment of 9 WTE infection (ID / Microbiology / Virology) consultants. We provide a bench to bedside service supported by modern laboratory facilities and purpose built inpatient ward with isolation facilities. We are an energetic and ambitious team who value individuality and diversity in both background and expertise.
The infection services we manage are broad; the Trust leads the regional HIV service and Hepatitis C operational delivery network, as well as the regional TB network. We have a busy clinical service that is built on a shared workload utilising the areas of overlapping expertise of all our consultants, yet allowing space to develop specialty expertise such as cardiothoracic or neurosurgical infection management. There is a broad range of community acquired infections and we are the regional referral service for infectious diseases for East Yorkshire and Humberside. We have a newly developed, exciting hybrid antibiotic service offering the best of both hospital and community based provision. We have an established training program, and put a high value on training the next generation of doctors and allied health care professionals. We score consistently high on team working, teaching, supervision and overall experience in National trainee feedback. We admitted and managed the first two cases of COVID-19 in the UK, using existing clinical and laboratory pathways. The smooth management on our ward and within the laboratory is testimony to the integration of our infection services.
Two of the exciting roles offered are new additional, substantive posts, and the other a replacement post. We would be happy to accept applications from Infection qualified applicants holding FRCPath or equivalent for 2 posts (i.e. anyone holding a CCT in Microbiology, Infectious Diseases / Microbiology or a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Microbiology). For the third post, we would invite applicants with CCT in Infectious Disease, with or without a CCT in Medical Microbiology / Virology / GIM. The roles will vary depending on the candidate and will include laboratory based clinical duties, infection prevention and control, antimicrobial stewardship as well as the scope for clinical management of both in- and outpatient infectious diseases patients. The specific work will depend on the subspecialty interests, training and abilities of the successful applicant. The department is supportive of personal progression and flexible working to allow consultants to maximise their potential whilst achieving a work-life balance. The on-call commitment will be to the Infection on call rota only for Infectious diseases qualified applicants and will be approximately 1 in 7. Microbiology qualified candidates are not required to be on the on call rota, but this could be accommodated if requested.
