Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Anaesthetist to join the existing team of 63 Consultant Anaesthetists. This is a new post to accommodate increase in theatre activity.

The Consultant Anaesthetist will provide Anaesthetic services with sessions in Neurosurgery, Trauma and Day Surgery. The post holder will also provide 1 in 18 on call cover for CEPOD Theatres in Hull Royal Infirmary. The post includes providing Anaesthetic services to the surgical specialities of Neurosurgery, Trauma and Breast Surgery.

Acute neurosurgical services are based in Hull Royal Infirmary, Hull which include elective and emergency craniotomies, interventional radiological procedures for treating tumours and aneurysms and complex spine surgery. There is an elective spine surgery service in Castle Hill Hospital.

Hull Royal Infirmary provides a 7-day Trauma surgical services with 2 theatres running most weekdays. Day Surgery services are provided at both hospital sites.

The post attracts an additional recruitment package. The package includes removal expenses up to £20,000 and a starting salary of point 4 of the pay scale. More detailed information is available upon request.”

Main duties of the job

A standard full time Job Plan will contain 10.1 programmed activities.  Any extra programmed activities will be agreed at the job planning process with the Clinical Manager.  Any such agreement will be made in writing and the additional programmed activities will be incorporated into the Job Plan schedule.

                                                                                                                               

                The Job Plan may be amended in consultation with the post holder to reflect the requirements of the new Consultant Contract regarding programmed activities.

 

The timetable is provisional and flexible and can be modified as required. It is shown as an example only. The above provisional time table would be expected to be 10.1 PAs, which is split as follows

The Consultant will, in conjunction with colleagues:

Provide theatre cover General theatres as below.

Provide an Anaesthetic Service in accordance with the agreed timetable and subsequent job plan

Supervise trainee Anaesthetic staff within the Trust.
