Consultant Neurologist with a special interest in Peripheral Nerve   

Based at Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, SE Wales

 Full Time (10 Sessions)

 Anticipated Start Date: ASAP

This is a new post which is being developed in line with the Neurological Conditions plan in regards to the future sustainability of peripheral nerve disorders services in Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB). This post will also deliver Neurology care closer to home in ABUHB, in accordance with the Wales NHS Care Closer to Home.

ABUHB is an exciting place to work as it has the unique opportunity of the Grange University Hospital, opened in 2021. Neurology is committed to our ethos of holistic care and we increasingly deliver care remotely. This improvement is supported by the regular collection of Patient Reported Outcome Measures as part of our PROMS. 

ABUHB currently has 7 Consultant Neurologists. We are recruiting for an additional two consultants. The service is predominately outpatient focused with clinics across a number of sites. The service also provides a Neurologist of the Week service centered around acute Neurology presenting in our Emergency and Assessment Department while also providing on-going advice for patients admitted with Neurological condition. The Neurology department is based within A- Block in the Royal Gwent Hospital and will provide access to IT and administrative services.

The Health Board also actively supports consultant doctors to undertake funded 3 month formal sabbaticals through an annual application process

This position involves Regulated Activity with adults as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act (amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and the following checks will be undertaken following any conditional offer:

  • Enhanced check with barred list information, including an adults barred list check

Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC

Candidates for Consultant posts must also be on the GMC Specialist Register (including via CESR/European Community Rights) or will have a CCT/CESR(CP) date within 6 months of interview.
