Are you a psychiatrist looking for an exciting career switch that offers the best of location and work-life balance?

We have a rare opportunity for a psychiatrist to join the Learning Disability community team based in the beautiful Mendip area of Somerset, within an hours drive from the vibrant cities of Bristol and Bath.

You will be based in the breath-taking cathedral city of Wells with a secondary base in Bridgwater. Supported by a specialist community learning disabilities health team and medical admin support, you will get to cover a population of approximately 155,000.

Flexible and remote working arrangements are available. We have a sophisticated online medical records system and secure video conferencing tools to be able to offer such arrangements.

In addition, the role comes with excellent leadership, research, and academic development opportunities made possible by close links with nearby medical schools and the Severn and Peninsula post-graduate training deaneries in Bristol and Plymouth respectively.

You will get to join a dynamic community learning disability team that provides mental health care and memory assessment clinics to adults with a learning disability. We do not provide an epilepsy management service any longer as this is now provided by neurology.

Moreover, you will get support from the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) which is a specialist learning disability crisis team helping clients recover in the community thereby reducing the need for psychiatric hospital admissions for your clients.

You will have the choice to join the senior out-of-hours on-call rota subject to availability.

This 10 PA post will have a 2.5 SPA allowance, subject to negotiated job planning. Special interests can be developed through discussion and agreement in job plan review meetings.

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is the first NHS trust on the English mainland to provide community, mental health and acute hospital services. We work with health and social care partners in Somerset to ensure that we deliver outstanding services that meet the needs of our population.

Our trust was formed on 1 April 2020 when Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust merged.

Location

This is a unique chance to live near some of the UKs most desirable and family-friendly locations; to experience life in the West Country -- the beautiful stretches of sandy coastline, many areas of outstanding natural beauty, the home of the renowned Glastonbury Festival, the world-famous Cheddar Cheese, pretty villages, bustling market towns, the cosmopolitan centres of Bristol, Bath and Exeter, whilst also being less than 2 hours from London.

Somerset also offers some of the best private schools in the country such as the Millfield School, Bruton School, Queens College, Taunton School, Kings College, Wellington School and Blundells, to award winning state schools such as the Richard Huish College.
