We are seeking to appoint a Consultant Orthopaedic upper limb Surgeons. The Consultants job plan will be based on a 10 PA contract and include being part of the general orthopaedic and trauma on-call rota. We would welcome enquiries and applications from fully trained orthopaedic upper limb surgeons. This is a new post to maintain and improve elective access times and increase the scope of trauma provision. The successful candidate will be encouraged to work closely with the current Upper Limb Surgeons, and together with these surgeons provide comprehensive cover for Upper Limb Elective and Trauma conditions.

The post holder will complement a department of 14 orthopaedic surgeons. The range of sub-speciality interests is:5 upper limb surgeons (two part-time)6 lower limb surgeons with hip and knee interest including sports injuries, primary and revision arthroplasty.2 foot and ankle surgeons who also have an interest in paediatric orthopaedics1 foot and ankle surgeon

The post is based at NGH. As a result of service reconfiguration the post holder may be required to also work at other sites in the county.

Working conditions will be equitable to the consultants working in the department already.

Main duties of the job


The number of sessions to be devoted to the following activities will be dependent upon the departments need and the post-holders requirements.

Participation in the Trauma On-call service - 1 in 12 Operation lists, both Elective and Trauma Regular ward rounds Outpatient clinics, both Elective and Trauma A Specialist interest in Upper Limb Surgery Presenting monthly mortality & morbidity statistics and participating in departmental teaching meetings Supervision and training middle grade Be prepared to participate in management duties within the department and the Trust

Job description


The basic job plan is for 10 PAs of which 8.5 PAs are clinical & 1.5 PAs are for basic/ core SPA duties. The 8.5 Clinical PAs will consist of (subject to confirmation):2 x elective theatre sessions 2PAs (weekly)1 x Elective Orthopaedic clinic 1.5 PA (weekly)1 x fracture clinic 1 PA (weekly)2 x Trauma theatre sessions 1 PA (fortnightly)Clinical Administration 0.5 PA (weekly)On call duties 2.5PAs
