The James Paget Hospital is seeking to appoint 2 Physician Associates to a 2 year rotational programme within General Medicine. The successful appointees will spend at least 6 months in Acute Medicine, with rotation to 2 other medical specialities out of Cardiology, Stroke, Gastroenterology, and Older Peoples Medicine. This programme provides an excellent opportunity for a qualified Physician Associate to gain a range of experience in General Medicine while developing their clinical and procedural skills with a view to future specialisation or more senior PA roles.

The James Paget Hospital currently employs 14 Physician Associates across A&E, general medicine and surgical specialities, and has been at the forefront of developing PA education. The Trust has invested in a PA Tutor and Associate Tutor to promote the role of Physician Associates and develop an appropriate framework for PA education, appraisal and professional development. We also now have a structured education programme specifically for Physician Associates which is co-ordinated by one of our senior PAs.

The Trust is keen to explore how Physician Associates in medicine can develop speciality interests and practical skills, and contribute to developing new services. Currently we have senior PAs in cardiology and gastroenterology but we plan to develop more of these roles across different specialities in the future. Physician Associates are also currently involved in medical research and teaching.

The Hospital is situated in a mainly rural area in one of the most open, picturesque, safe and unspoilt parts of the country, offering a range of inexpensive properties, good schools, easy access to the coast and an abundance of outdoor, sporting and recreational activities. The post will appeal to candidates who seek a high quality of life combined with a practical clinical role within a secure and well-run hospital distinguished by its supportive and friendly culture. The JPUH have been given an overall rating of "Good," following the Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection which took place in August 2019. This places us in the top 30% of acute trusts in the country.
