We are inviting applications for a locum consultant in general paediatrics with an interest in neonatology, to join our team for 6 months. You will be one of six consultants participating in a hot-week rota for the neonatal unit on a 1:6 basis and providing on-call for neonates on a 1:6 basis. The neonatal unit is a (level 2) Local Neonatal Unit with 18 cots, and is part of the South West Neonatal Network.

When not covering the acute neonatal service, you will provide general paediatric and safeguarding outpatient clinics, with any other specialist interests to compliment the department. The general paediatric wards are covered by twelve other consultants on a separate rota.

Applicants interested in less than full time work are welcome to apply.

You will provide consultant cover in a “hot-week’’ style on the neonatal unit; providing care for infants on the neonatal unit, post-natal wards, and deliveries, and supervising junior staff.  This includes 1:6 consultant out of hours on call for the neonatal unit. There is an expectation that the hot week neonatal Consultant will support the General Paediatric team in the care of acutely unwell children less than 10kg requiring HDU or ITU care.

You will provide out-patient services including general paediatric clinics on the remaining weeks.  Opportunities exist for a specialist interest clinic. Interests that complement those already in the department are encouraged. You will be also contribute to the regular safeguarding clinics, providing assessments of physical safeguarding concerns. The department also provides a primary care referral triage/advice service via Choose and Book, which you would be expected to contribute to.

It is important that you shares the commitment of the department for excellence in clinical service and the policy of continuing development of innovative service delivery and high quality training for all staff. You will be approachable, pro-active and able to provide advice and support to colleagues, junior doctors and members of the multidisciplinary team.
