We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist to join our service. The post holder will have proven clinical and leadership skills and be able to manage highly complex patients in a high secure setting. In recognition of the skills required, the post attracts a £20K recruitment and retention payment.
The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for up to 20 patients (full time). The post holder will work with a multidisciplinary team and will provide clinical leadership to the team. The post holder will also be expected to take on other leadership roles within the hospital.
Participation in research and educational activities will be encouraged. Candidates must have full GMC registration and have a CCT in Forensic Psychiatry/ General Adult Psychiatry (with significant experience in forensic psychiatry) or be within 6 months of completion of training or be eligible for inclusion on the specialist register at the time of interview.
Main duties of the job
The Post Holder will be responsible for the care of up to 20 patients within our increased support and assertive treatment wards and our assertive rehabilitation wards.
The Post Holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, consisting of a ward manager, ward nursing staff, a clinical or forensic psychologist, a junior doctor, a social worker, a security liaison nurse and an occupational therapist.
The Post Holder will be expected to provide a leadership role for specific and defined areas of development or practice (eg clinical audit, patient safety), taking into consideration their interests and expertise. In addition, they will be expected to be engaged in service development and innovation.
The Post Holder will be actively involved in clinical governance and will contribute to the improvement of the quality of the clinical work of the Hospital by adopting evidence based practice.
The Post Holder will be encouraged to pursue research interests and to publish in peer-reviewed journals as appropriate.
The Post Holder will be on the consultant on call rota and will be expected to carry our assessments of patients referred to Broadmoor Hospital (approx. 4 per year).
