This is a replacement full time (10 PA) consultant dermatologist post. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time or who those wishing to job-share. The main aims of the post are to provide dermatological care for patients in Cornwall and to progress a sub-specialty interest to complement the team.
The Department of Dermatology is based in a dedicated, purpose built, modern facility on the main hospital site in Truro (Royal Cornwall Hospital). It comprises three operating theatres, an outpatient suite, phototherapy and day treatment areas and a Mohs laboratory. Consultant office space and administrative and clerical staff are all based within the unit.
The post-holder will join an existing medical team comprising three dermatology consultants, one GU consultant, four associate specialists and three specialty doctors. The department offers a number of specialist services including Mohs micrographic surgery, one stop "see and treat" skin lesion clinics, paediatric dermatology, cutaneous allergy as well as a modern phototherapy unit.
A dedicated team of nurses provides nurse led clinical services including Isotretinoin, cytotoxic and biologic drug monitoring, PDT, dressings clinics and day treatment clinics. The majority of nursing staff are trained to carry out minor procedures and 3 nurses have also undergone training to carry out simple excision surgery. Currently there are 4 nurse prescribers within the unit and more are undergoing training. There are two highly competent clinical nurse specialists who diagnose and treat skin cancers and inflammatory dermatoses and a separate oncology based skin cancer CNS team who see skin cancer patients for diagnosis and follow up appointments.
The Royal Cornwall Hospital is situated in the Cathedral city of Truro in the centre of the Cornish Peninsula. The surrounding countryside is renowned for its spectacular rural and coastal scenery. Cornwall is well known for its surfing beaches, coastal and inland sailing waters, as well as equestrian opportunities. The strong heritage of Cornwall has been underlined by the opening of the Eden Project and the National Maritime Museum. Over recent years there has been an unprecedented growth in high quality restaurants and family orientated leisure facilities. The main road links to the rest of the country have been further enhanced by major improvements to the A30. Local rail links to London include regular daytime and sleeper services and there are regular daily flights to London from Newquay Airport, as well as to other national and international destinations.

RCHT comprises three main hospitals: The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro; West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance, and St. Michael's in Hayle. Outpatient and other services are also provided at a large number of community-based NHS locations around the county and a number of corporate support services are located away from the main hospital sites.
