Are you an Established Consultant Psychiatrist or looking for the next step to become a Consultant? Are you dedicated and passionate about improving mental health services and looking for your next role as a dynamic clinical leader?

We are seeking to appoint someone like you, who will be able to provide senior medical input and leadership to the St. Andrews Inpatient Ward. You will be encouraged and supported to be involved in service leadership management and to develop an area of special clinical interest in line with service requirements.

We can offer you outstanding support and development opportunities, specifically tailored to your needs. This could include supporting you with gaining your Section 12 approval / Approved Clinician status or supporting you through the CESR route to achieve your specialist registration. Your continuing professional development and work satisfaction are of high importance to us and we offer ongoing support to achieve both.

St Andrews Ward is a 14 bedded ward which admits adults from the Mendip locality, with a population of approximately 114,000. There are 275 admissions per 100,000 adult population in Somerset.

This Consultant post does not include any other community responsibilities. There are 3.5 WTE consultants in CMHS and 0.6 WTE in Home Treatment team (HTT) in Mendip Adult Mental Health services. There are future plans for St Andrews Ward to be combined with one of our other inpatient wards, meaning you will have a fantastic team supporting you in this role.

We are delighted to announce that in November 2020 Somerset FT was shortlisted for the mental health trust of the year award in the widely acclaimed HSJ Awards. It follows a series of initiatives that we've introduced that have changed the way we develop and plan our mental health services by listening to and involving patients themselves. The HSJ judges said they were looking for trusts which offer excellent, patient-centric care built on strong engagement between clinicians within and beyond the organisation.
