Consultant Cardiac Surgeon
Applications are invited for a substantive Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to join our dynamic and dedicated team in its delivery of cardiac services based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
The candidate will be working alongside the existing team to further develop the departmental repertoire in addition to delivering a general adult cardiac surgical practice. The post would be particularly attractive for candidates who wish to develop an expertise in mitral valve surgery.
The Cardiothoracic Department delivers a broad range of cardiac and thoracic services to patients across South East Wales. The service is delivered by five Cardiac Surgeons and three Thoracic Surgeons using dedicated cardiothoracic theatres. Support is provided by a dedicated 13-bed cardiac ITU / HDU and ring-fenced 37-bed cardiothoracic ward. Around 750 open-heart operations are performed annually, with plans for expansion in future years. The department has a track record of exemplary results as published over the years.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University's School of Medicine will be expected.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT / CESR(CP) at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £82,356 per annum to £106,920 per annum plus a further £26,672 per annum available in Commitment Awards. Consultants in Wales paid on one of the first three points of the substantive Consultant pay scale also receive a Wales recruitment incentive payment.
Applicants must ensure they provide the names and contact details of referees covering at least the last three years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
