We are recruiting Senior Clinical Fellows (ST4+ equivalent) in Critical Care Medicine, with a special interest in follow-up after critical illness.
This post is suitable for applicants who wish to pursue a career in intensive care medicine. The post is equally suited to those still in training as well as those in possession of a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training who wish to gain experience in critical care follow-up before taking up a consultant post.
The aim of this fellowship is to provide experience and train individuals in delivering follow-up after critical illness.
SBH has an established critical care follow-up service, led by Dr Anthony Bastin. The dedicated follow-up team includes senior critical care nurses, and physiotherapy, with support from clinical psychology, occupational therapy and other allied health professionals/therapies staff, along with administrator support.
There is a weekly clinic, with face-to-face, video and telephone options. Approximately 200-300 consultations per year are held. We also host facilitated peer-support sessions for patients and family.
The post-holder will be expected to contribute to ongoing follow-up service development, to meet the needs of our local population, which are ever-changing in the face of evolving clinical demands (e.g. COVID-19) and emerging evidence, research and guidelines.
The post holder will continue a clinic commitment to the critical care rota, which will be approximately 1 in 9 nights, weekends and long days. The remaining time will be spent between daily work in the ICU, and work within the critical care follow-up service. We anticipate a minimum of 2 days per week within the critical care follow-up service.
