Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time to be a part of our expanding Crisis Pathway, with ambitions to provide the best quality care to all in need of crisis/acute care. As the Consultant, for one of our two adult inpatient admission wards, you will be providing excellent clinical leadership for acute care and contributing to the development of the wider Pathway. You will be working with a supportive MDT to deliver high quality care, inline with national standards, and making a valued contribution to the development and implementation of acute care pathways for those in need of hospital admission.

The PostTitle: Consultant PsychiatristSpecialty: General Adult Psychiatry Inpatients - Northgate Ward

Job SummaryWe are seeking a consultant psychiatrist to join one of our adult inpatient units inWedgwood House, Bury St Edmunds.

Description of the PostLocal services are currently going through rapid development with the introduction ofthe 24/7 initial tele-triage mental health response service, via NHS 111 option 2, andexpansion of CRHTT and Psychiatric Liaison Service (Core 24 initiative). Northgateward is an integral part of the Crisis Pathway in West Suffolk and provides 18inpatient beds for the population of Bury North catchment area. At times there areadmissions from elsewhere in the Trust. Approximately 121,400 people areregistered with a GP in this area. Last year there were 160 admissions from thiscatchment area. This post is based alongside the rest of the multidisciplinary teamon Northgate Ward, Wedgwood House, Bury St Edmunds.

Experience
Essential
  • Experience of the assessment and treatment of complex mental disorders in a relevant population
  • Experience of providing medical leadership in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of clinical governance processes including ability to use quality improvement methods as a tool to improve quality of care
  • Experience in risk assessment and risk management
Desirable
  • Sub-speciality experience relevant to the clinical role
  • Relevant sub-specialty endorsement
  • Experience of multiagency working relevant to the role
  • Experience of building great teams
Qualifications
Essential
  • GMC
  • Recognised basic medical degree
  • MRCPsych or Equivalent
  • Included on the GMC specialist register or within 3 months of CCT or equivalent in a relevant clinical specialism
  • Approved Clinician and Section 12 Approval under MHA
Desirable
  • Relevant higher degree (i.e. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications)
  • Substantive experience at consultant level in the relevant specialism
