We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive Consultant Dermatologist to join our busy dermatology department based in the cathedral city of Canterbury.
The dermatology department has a centralised academic, cancer management and special interest centre in Canterbury, with additional outpatient clinics in Ashford, Margate and Dover covering a population area of 695,000.
Main duties of the job
You will be on the specialist register, or within six months of your CCT, and have good experience in Paediatric and General dermatology. We can offer full, part time and flexible opportunities.
It is expected that the successful applicant will play an active part in the development of the innovative dermatology service, developing strong links with our primary care colleagues. The post holder will work closely with the dermatology team in delivering inpatient and outpatient dermatology services to the local population.
We have great transport links to London & the continent, and are set in beautiful countryside with easy access to many great Kentish beaches and towns with excellent schooling.
We have regular on line academic meetings with Brighton and London including the RSM and have strong academic links to both St Thomas and Kings College Hospital.
Working for your organisation
We are a University Foundation Trust and have a passion for clinical excellence, multi professional working and education. Many of our consultants enjoy additional posts in the Trust, Deanery, BAD and Nationally. You will be working in a team of four consultants with diverse clinical interests. We also have 3 specialist registrars under KSS Deanery and a number of excellent Speciality doctors.
The department provides many subspecialty clinics such as dermatological surgery including a Mohs unit, paediatrics, contact/occupational dermatitis, vulval dermatoses and a full phototherapy service. There are several dedicated specialist nurses developing their nurse led services. Inpatients are admitted under the hospital medical teams and there is no formal after hours on-call commitment.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The general responsibilities of the post will be those expected of a senior clinical employee of the Trust. These include provision of a first class clinical service, effective leadership to all staff involved in supporting the service, conducting clinical practice in accordance with the highest ethical standards, co-operation with and maintenance of confidentiality over business plans and development strategies within the Trust, support for other clinical specialties and contribution to postgraduate teaching. The appointee will be expected to deliver a service covering all aspects of dermatology, but a special interest to complement those of the existing consultants would be encouraged.
