6 Months - Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Women's department has an opportunity to welcome a dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to the team.

We have state of the art hospitals at Pontefract and Wakefield and are upgrading the existing Dewsbury Hospital to the same standard. Maternity services are delivered at all three Trust sites. We have antenatal clinics and Midwife Led Birth centres on all three sites and a dedicated Consultant led labour ward at Pinderfields providing 98 hour resident cover per week. Our labour ward is directly linked to our neonatal unit where we have an excellent working relationship with our neonatal team. Within Gynaecology services we have a dedicated Gynaecology assessment unit on the Pinderfields site and offer a wide range of comprehensive services to our patients including:

  • Being a well-respected Endometriosis Centre.
  • A dedicated Gynaecology Acute Assessment Unit at Pinderfields to help improve our patient's experience.
  • Outpatient clinics for colposcopy, hysteroscopy including see and treat, minor procedures, PMB clinics, Uro-gynaecology
  • Gynaecology oncology unit which works via efficient MDT with Leeds as the 'hub' and a visiting gynaecology oncology consultant from Leeds.
  • Elective surgery and clinics on all sites so patients receive care closer to home.
  • Elective obstetric suite at Pinderfields.
  • A bereavement suite for mothers who have suffered a still birth or late miscarriage.

Many in the department pursue interests such as research and/or have a strong commitment to service development and teaching; applicants with a shared enthusiasm for these areas are encouraged. Our team has a broad range of expertise and is proud of the improvements we have made and continue to make.

If you have an interest in delivering high quality obstetrics and gynaecology care and being in a supportive environment to further develop your career, then this is the role for you.

Every one of our 8000 staff at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust plays a vital role in providing quality care to thousands of people living across Wakefield and North Kirklees each year.

We're proud to say that our hard working, talented and dynamic workforce is our greatest asset. If you are a dynamic, innovative forward thinking clinician who would like to make a significant contribution to the Trust then you could become part of the team.

We can offer a supportive working environment - in first class facilities - where excellence and innovation is valued and celebrated; by providing excellent training and development opportunities, and by offering a comprehensive package of staff benefits.
